It’s Not What You Look at That Matters – It’s What You See

Sucrose Intolerance, due to Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID), is a disorder that causes a reduction in the activity of the enzyme required to break down and absorb table sugar (sucrose) and other sugars that are found in starch.

Sucrose Intolerance due to CSID may include any or all of the following symptoms: chronic, watery diarrhea; gassiness; bloating; abdominal pain; and bouts of constipation. Symptoms can vary from mild to severe. Sucrose Intolerance can be inherited by both men and women, and may be correctly diagnosed at any age.

Diagnosing CSID can be difficult because the symptoms are similar to several other, more common gastrointestinal disorders, including toddler’s diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome-diarrhea, celiac disease, and lactose intolerance.

Only your doctor can diagnose you. If you suspect you might be sucrose intolerant, take this information with you to your doctor and ask if you might be affected by CSID.
